A spiral staircase built in wood
A spiral staircase is one of the most demanding pieces of carpentry to build: every step has a different shape from the one before it, and all of them have to fit around the same central axis while keeping a comfortable, safe stride.
Each step is calculated and cut individually: the turning angle has to stay constant throughout the staircase so the stride feels even, never too tight or too open at any point along the way.
The solid-wood finish, with the grain visible on every step, is what gives it that warm, natural look once it's done — and it's also what demands the most care during assembly, because any piece that's slightly off shows immediately.
This kind of made-to-measure carpentry — staircases, wooden structures, pieces that aren't bought ready-made — is part of the work I do in Málaga and the surrounding area.
